School Year Transition Guidance Program
With U.S. Soccer shifting from birth-year teams to school-year grouping (cutoff: August 1), many families are feeling uncertain and overwhelmed. At Soccer IQ Academy (SIQ), we provide clear guidance, education, and preparation to help your child move through this transition with confidence at kickarounds, ID camps, tryouts from now through later in 2026. This is a major change, and You don’t have to figure it out alone.
Why This Change Feels Stressful for Families
The move from birth-year teams to school-year teams raises important questions:
- How will this reform affect my child, and will my child be playing up or down?
- How will this impact confidence, development, and playing time?
- What should we focus on before tryouts or next season?
This reform creates two very different challenges:
- Some players will move down into a younger group and may become leaders or standout players. While this can boost confidence, families wonder: “Will my child still be challenged? and “Are they developing or just dominating?”
- Other players will stay in their current grade and now face older and more physical players. For these families, it can feel like survival mode: “Can my child keep up physically?” and “How will this affect confidence and playing time?”
Both situations come with risk and opportunity — and both need smart planning.
SIQ can help both groups — players who are moving down and players who are facing older competition — with a plan that fits their situation. We support families with a long-term development mindset, not panic decisions. We provide honest, neutral guidance, education for parents and individualized player preparation. Our goal is simple, i.e. help families understand the reform, avoid common mistakes, and prepare players properly for tryouts.
We are not a recruiting service and do not place players into clubs.
