FAQs
Do you have some questions? Find answers below!
Question:
What is the difference between Soccer IQ Academy camps and other soccer camps in USA?
Answer:
Most soccer camps we have seen in USA are focused on development of individual skills! Soccer IQ Academy camps are incorporating individual skills with developing in players game intelligence and ability to see big picture on the field. Our curriculum is unique and based on curriculum of teams playing possession style of soccer in Europe. Within last 10 years founder of SIQ Academy, Tolya Rubtsov, spent a lot of time in Spain to learn this style f soccer and created unique curriculum that allows to improve players game intelligence within short period of time.
Does Soccer IQ Academy affiliated with any soccer club?
No! SIQ is independent organization that provides additional training for serious players! During soccer seasons majority SIQ coaches work at different clubs in Colorado (Storm, Real, Rapids, Rush, Skyline). As a result of this SIQ coaches are prohibited to recruit players from our camps (coaches sign the paper stating specifically this). Of course we can not prevent communication between families and coaches (in fact we require such communication in order to promote player development) but active direct recruiting is not allowed at SIQ camps.
Does Soccer IQ Academy affiliated with any clubs outside of USA?
We have partnership with Football Five Stars, Barcelona-based soccer school and provide camps not only in USA but also in Barcelona, Spain (in 2017 the camp will be held in November, during the week of Thanksgiving). We are also working on our partnership with one club in Barcelona and hope that our best players will be able to receive training at this club when visiting Barcelona. This partnership will be finalized before July 2017.
Does Soccer IQ Academy have teams which participate in tournaments?
During Spring and Fall seasons SIQ does not have teams. However, SIQ forms teams for small tournaments and leagues that run during Winter and Summer and do not require players passes. You can see SIQ teams at 3v3 summer tournaments, winter futsal tournaments etc. Based on nature of SIQ camps, usually these teams include players that during the regular soccer seasons play for different clubs. We believe this is another great aspect of SIQ camps - provide opportunity for top players to know each other!
How old players should be to participate in Soccer IQ Academy camps?
Camps are normally for players between 8 and 14 years of age, both boys and girls. Some exceptions can be made.
What time before practice player should be at the field? What gear player should have with him?
Soccer players should be on the field 10-15 minutes before start time of the practice and should have proper soccer outfit (jersey, shorts, soccer socks, shin guards, cleats or indoor shoes), sunscreen (if practice in summer outside), water bottle, soccer ball.
What is the player to coach ration at our practices?
With some exceptions SIQ evening camps will have maximum 15:1 player to coach ration plus we have one additional coach who supervises the whole camp. With some exceptions full day Soccer Culture camps will have 10:1 ratio.
Is it possible to pay in parts for Soccer IQ Academy camps? For each individual training?
Yes! If you need to extend your payment throughout several months please contact us and we will be happy to work with you on this.
Does Soccer IQ Academy provides scholarships?
Yes! We understand that not every family can afford our camps and are happy to provide some assistance to anyone who is need. Please contact us directly to discuss details.
What is SIQ practice cancellation/reimbursement policy?
A $50 cancellation fee will be incurred with cancellations made 14+ days before the first day of camp. If you cancel between 1-13 days before the first day of your camp, a 50% deposit for your camp will not be returned. Once a camp begins there is no refund for a cancellation or withdrawal except in the case of an injury occurred at the camp.
Should family have insurance policy for the player?
Yes, Injuries do happen in soccer and each family is required to have medical insurance for their player(s)!!
Will be there medical staff on site?
No! In case of emergency we will call 911. We are working to set up partnership with medical office which will be on call during our camps but nothing is set yet.
How old players should be to participate in Soccer IQ Academy camps?
Camps are normally for players between 8 and 14 years of age, both boys and girls. Some exceptions can be made.
What is the Soccer IQ Academy EIN (Tax ID) number?
It is 46-4771255
What student's parents write us:
Tolya,
I wanted to take a moment to respond to your evaluation. I have given the evaluation to my son and couldn't agree more with your assessment. As I have watched his soccer development over the past year I believe he is starting to hone in on this idea of physical and mental toughness as the areas that he will need to focus on to find greater success.
As a way of updating you on his soccer situation, I want to thank you for all the time you put in this time last year to point us in the right direction for his soccer. As you know he joined storm on their select team last year. His transition in the fall was tough as his coach was different than you and others he has had in the past. That being said the coach found a slot for him at center mid in a rotation of about 5 to 6 kids (he plays two center midfielders). Last year he was playing less than half of the games but was growing in his learning of the position. I found that his interest in soccer was waning due to the coaching approach and the lack of success but he stuck with it.
This winters SIQ for him was crucial. He found his joy for soccer again through your work. He articulated it in that exact way.
Fast forward to the spring. While the results are early his progress has been incredible. His technical skills have improved greatly since the fall season. He credits having fun in your program again and working on some weaknesses in a safe environment. His team traveled to Phoenix in February and while the team didn't fair well. My son had a huge breakthrough. He has taken his role as a center mid and started to apply a style of play that was physical and started using his soccer IQ to impose his will on the game. As such he played the final 2 games of the tournament with about 10 total minutes sitting out. His coach is frankly shocked and surprised.
He has supplanted 3 DP players and is now I would say top 2 in the rotation for the 2 center mid spots. He played in crunch time yesterday and is continuing to develop in imposing his will on the game.
My son himself credits you for being a big part of that. Thanks for being such a passionate pursuer of the game. And thank you for your positive feedback and constructive criticism to my son.
Best,

Elite Possession Camp in Denver
Monday 06/05/2017 - Thursday 06/15/2017
The minimum age to book a camp is 18. If you are younger your should have permission from your parents!
What parents say about SoccerIQ camps
- The intense focus on how to play smart soccer was clear. It is amazing how all of the kids (even the younger group) really enjoyed learning how to move together on a field (as opposed to just a collection of individuals), and how when they work together the whole team is much stronger and the play is more enjoyable.
Moss Pike
Storm U9 parent
- My son is participating in the first SIQ Academy camp this summer (weeknights from 6:30 to 8) and after witnessing for two weeks I can say it's the most amazing and demanding training I've seen for youth soccer in Denver.
Samuel Willson
Skyline U11 parent
- We thought this was a great camp. Especially since our son was working with his teammates on tactical skills that they will be able to use in the Fall. He really liked his coach and the philosophy/training of the camp was fantastic!
Alex Larkins
Storm U9 parent
- While it was inconvenient for our family to have SIQ 3-4 nights a week I think it really helped our son understand the SIQ principles so the month long camp and frequency were good for him. The homework was a great touch and I would enjoy continuing to get video links from you to share with my son.
Sarah Lewin
Skyline U11 parent
- Loved the camp. Loved the month long format. Prefer it to an intensive 1 week session, because don't think the boys have the opportunity to learn as much.
Kari Tarr
Rapids Academy U12 and U11 parent
- Thank you very much for creating a very fun, positive experience for our children in your SIQ Camp. Our son and daughter thoroughly enjoyed their experience and would like to take advantage of your Winter camp, along with their older brother.
Sam and Samantha Fellig
Rapids U9 and U11 (Academy) parents
- We loved the location, the month long format and the early morning time. Sometimes it's hard to commit in the summer to evening activities.
Nick McElligott
Storm Copa U13 parent
- I think it was very helpful and informative and opened my son's eyes to some aspect of the game he had not been taught yet. I think it will help him improve over the coming seasons. I also really appreciate your passion for the game and your ability to communicate with the players.
Tom Aldanh
Pride Elite U12 parent
- The whole tactical approach to where to stand, how to move from one side to another depending on where the ball is, was something my son has not done yet, so that was excellent. Repeating everything again over subsequent weeks was a really good idea too. The home work was excellent, and because of that we are now discussing formations for every game we watch.
Tony Melhem
Rapids Academy U12 parent
- We chose to only offer our son one camp this summer. We chose SIQ camp because of it's concentration on Possession soccer, it's Coaching staff, and unique month long time frame.
Rachel Saunders
Storm Copa U12 parent
- Both my son and I thought that the camp was extremely beneficial. My son came away with a much better sense of field tactics and strategy, as well as location on the field. It covered areas that were not addressed in either his club team or in other camps.

Storm U12 parent
